Newcastle United are interested in signing Monza star Carlos Augusto as they consider signing a new left back this summer.
That is according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Newcastle are looking towards Carlos Augusto.
It’s stated that the Brazilian is being watched regularly by a number of scouts ‘from half of Europe’.
After an impressive season, Newcastle are now keen too and are considered to be one of the ‘most interested’ teams.
The Magpies have been using Dan Burn at left back this season, but he is more of a centre back by trade.
Matt Targett has suffered injury problems and that means left backs are being linked with summer moves to St James’ Park.
Kieran Tierney and Renan Lodi are a couple of names mentioned in recent weeks but Newcastle could now look towards Italy.

After joining the club as a 12-year-old, Carlos ended up becoming a first-team player with 37 appearances to his name.

Sure enough, Carlos and Monza secured promotion in their second season together and he is now shining in Serie A.
Carlos has been one of the stars of the season with five goals and five assists from 27 games at left wing back.
Carlos has also played as a left-sided centre back and can play as a left back in a four-man defence, giving great versatility.
Praised as ‘extraordinary’ by Monza boss Raffaele Palladino, 24-year-old Carlos has been a breakout star this term.
Newcastle are now showing an interest, possibly viewing Carlos as a backup target to the aforementioned Tierney.
