Newcastle United are discussing making a move for Brighton and Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma at the end of the season.

That is according to a report from The Telegraph, who claim that Newcastle are ready to make ‘elite’ signings this summer.

The Magpies seem ready to splash the cash this summer in order to go to the next level in their project.

One of the targets Newcastle are internally discussing is Brighton and Hove Albion star Mitoma.

It’s suggested that the Japanese star is on the Newcastle wish list alongside a number of targets who have been mentioned regularly.

The likes of Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney are again highlighted but Mitoma is a new rumour for Newcastle fans.

Newcastle would surely have to pay staggering money for Mitoma but the Magpies seem keen to add another winger this summer.

Kaoru Mitoma has been a sensation this season

Mitoma was a relative unknown when Brighton pounced to sign him from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021.

Brighton immediately sent him out on loan to sister club Union Saint-Gilloise and Mitoma excelled in Belgium.

Making the step up to Premier League action wasn’t supposed to be easy but Mitoma has made a seamless transition.

The 25-year-old has been an incredible dribbling threat this season, having previously written his university thesis on the art of going past a defender.

Mitoma is able to dance around opponents and create havoc in the final third, notching seven goals and four assists in 24 games.

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by Magpies legend Alan Shearer, Mitoma is no doubt attracting interest from top Premier League clubs.

Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth will be well aware of Mitoma from his time at Brighton and the Magpies could launch a big move this summer.
