Newcastle United and Norwich City are reportedly interested in Swindon Town stopper Lawrence Vigouroux.

According to The Sun, Newcastle United and Norwich City are both interested in signing Swindon Town goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

Vigouroux, 22, made his way up through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur, with the London-born goalkeeper joining from Brentford back in 2012.

After a loan spell with non-league side Hyde United during the 2013-14 season, Vigouroux was released by Tottenham despite penning his first professional deal with the club a year earlier.

Surprisingly, it was Liverpool who signed Vigouroux n the summer of 2014, offering him a deal after a successful trial with the club, but he failed to even make his debut for the Reds.

The Chilean, who also qualifies for England and Jamaica, spent last season on loan at Swindon Town in League One, and after making 37 appearances for the Robins, that move became permanent over the summer.

Now one of the top young goalkeepers in the Football League, 6ft 5in shot stopper Vigouroux is making the most of his opportunity to play first-team football – and his performances appear to be attracting interest.

The Sun report that Championship high-flyers Newcastle United and Norwich City are both interested in signing Vigouroux with the January transfer window drawing ever closer.

Signing another goalkeeper should hardly be at the top of Newcastle’s priority list. Rafael Benitez already has great competition with Karl Darlow and Matz Sels battling for the No. 1 jersey, whilst Rob Elliot is coming back from injury, Freddie Woodman is a talented youngster and Tim Krul will return from his loan deal at Ajax next summer, making a move for Vigouroux seem somewhat unlikely.

Meanwhile, Norwich also have a decent battle going on with John Ruddy and Michael McGovern fighting for the jersey, with Paul Jones serving as third-choice whilst Declan Rudd is on loan at Charlton.

There are questions about the long-term futures of Jones and Rudd, whilst Ruddy and McGovern are 30 and 32 respectively, meaning manager Alex Neil may look to bring in a young goalkeeper to develop – and Vigouroux fits that bill.
