Newcastle United, Arsenal and Leicester City are reportedly among the clubs interested in Southampton’s Matt Targett.

Southampton defender Matt Targett heads home an equaliser during the Premier League match between Southampton and Bournemouth at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton on Saturday 27th April 2019.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United and Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing Matt Targett from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that Newcastle, Leicester City, Aston Villa and Fulham all have spoken with Southampton over the transfer of the 23-year-old, who can operate as a left-back or as a wing-back.

The report has stated that Liverpool and Arsenal have enquired about the former England Under-21 international – who earns £35,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com.

According to TEAMtalk, Targett has been told by Southampton that they will sell him for the right price this summer.

Good signing for Newcastle United?

Newcastle need to sign a left-back, as that is an area that manager Rafael Benitez is short of quality options.

Targett is not exactly a ‘great’ player, but he is only 23 years of and has shown some promising signs when he has played for Southampton.

According to WhoScored, the former England Under-21 international made 13 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Saints this past season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.
