The Scotland international looks set for a move to St James’ Park.
Grant Hanley of Blackburn Rovers
Newcastle United look set to continue their recruitment drive this summer with the imminent transfer of Scotland international defender Grant Hanley.
The Toon have been chasing the centre-back for some time now but have struggled to come to any agreement with his current club Blackburn Rovers over a potential transfer fee for the player.

That has now seemingly changed, with Sky Sports reporting that Newcastle have agreed a fee of £5.5 million for the player today ahead of a potential move to St James’ Park.
Hanley has proven himself a top operator in the Championship and will look to partner Jamaal Lascelles or Chancel Mbemba in the Newcastle back-line – after the departures of experienced pair Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez will also be concerned about Mbemba’s potential involvement with the DR Congo at the African Cup of Nations next year.

Hanley, who played 52 games last season for club and country, is now set for a medical and a discussion over personal terms.
If he does sign he will become Newcastle’s sixth signing of the summer – following on from Matz Sels, Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie, Jesus Gamez and Isaac Hayden’s signatures.
