Crystal Palace are now hoping to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Watford midfielder Will Hughes before the transfer deadline.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Newcastle are ‘split’ on signing Hughes as Steve Bruce pursues new signings.
The Magpies just paid up for a midfielder with Joe Willock arriving from Arsenal, and may not fancy signing Hughes too.
That has now given Palace a window of opportunity to get in and go for Hughes, with Patrick Vieira even more desperate for recruits after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Chelsea.
Hughes is refusing to sign a new deal at Watford and has been banished to train with the Under-23’s as a result of his stance.
It seems that Watford are ready to sell before Hughes walks away for nothing in 2022, and Palace now looks to be his most likely destination.

Newcastle haven’t exactly been busy this summer and really need additions before the window slams shut, with Hughes a potential cut-price addition.
It sounds like there is an internal tug-of-war over whether or not to go for Hughes, and the current state of play seems to be that a deal won’t happen with the Magpies.
