CalcioMercato report that Newcastle will have to pay between £58million and £66million to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this month. The Toon are said to have made their interest known in the last couple of days.
After a shaky start following his big-money move to Napoli from Lille, 23-year-old Osimhen has been excellent at Napoli. This season, the Nigeria international has scored nine goals in 16 games – laying on two assists.
But Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is known for his wheeling and dealing and is said to be open to offers for the striker. If a bid between £58million and £66million, he will consider it, as per CalcioMercato.
The report also states that after failing to nab Dusan Vlahovic – who is set for Juventus – Newcastle are trying to get Osimhen. Napoli have not closed the door and the ‘threat’ of Newcastle signing Osimhen is ‘concrete’.
Newcastle eye Osimhen: Move is much more likely in the summer
To strike such a big-money deal right now is near impossible. So many factors would have to be agreed, and that is not even considering the view of the player. Currently at Napoli, he would hardly want a relegation fight.
While Nigeria have now been knocked out of AFCON, it leaves little time to secure a deal. Osimhen, though, might be more tempted in the summer – if Newcastle can avoid the drop. Wages will not be an issue for the Toon.
Indeed, the report does state that intermediaries are looking to strike a summer deal for Osimhen – who still has a contract at Napoli until 2024. It would be a sensational move, but Newcastle fans will likely, have to wait.
