Newcastle United are reportedly ready to rival Sunderland for the signature of Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are interested in signing Dundalk sensation Daryl Horgan – but will face major competition for his signature.
Horgan, 24, is the golden boy of Irish football right now, as he’s been playing a starring role for League of Ireland Premier Division champions and Europa League surprise package Dundalk.

The former Sligo Rovers and Cork City wide man has made his name with Dundalk, hitting 23 goals in 98 games, and his performances for Stephen Kenny’s side have earned him a first call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad.
Unsurprisingly, clubs are looking towards Horgan as a possible transfer target for the January window. Players like Seamus Coleman, Wes Hoolahan, Chris Forrester, Keith Fahey, James McClean, Kevin Doyle and Shane Long have all had success in English football having emerged in Irish football, and teams are eyeing up Horgan in the hope of similar success.

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle United are now hoping to sign Horgan in January, with Rafael Benitez continuing to look for reinforcements despite such an impressive summer transfer window.
It’s claimed that the Magpies scouts watched Horgan against Zenit St. Petersburg in the Europa League last month, and the wide man then scored a sublime goal against the Russians on Thursday to only increase interest in his signature.

The report adds that Manchester City have eyed Horgan for a move to sister club Melbourne City, whilst The Irish Sun recently claimed that Sunderland are also monitoring Horgan as they desperately pursue attacking improvements under David Moyes, with Horgan’s contract expiring in December.
Now, it’s their North East rivals Newcastle looking to land Horgan, with Benitez interested in another winger despite already having the likes of Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie and Yoan Gouffran at his disposal – and right now, it seems more likely that the Magpies will be in the Premier League than Sunderland next season, which could help Horgan make his decision.
