Newcastle and Fulham are set to be busy this summer.
The 26-year-old centre-back joined Sampdoria last summer on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal and has impressed in the Blucerchiati’s 2017-18 campaign which saw them finish in a comfortable 10th place.
Ferrari made 31 appearances for Sampdoria this season, helping Marco Giampaolo’s side keep nine clean sheets as well as scoring two goals – one of which came in his loan side’s excellent 3-2 win over Juventus back in November.
It is believed that Sampdoria can buy Ferrari outright this summer for £11.5million, but the club are trying to reduce that price in talks with Sassuolo. It could see them jeopardise a move entirely.
That could allow Newcastle or indeed Fulham to swoop in and land the uncapped Italian, who was called up to Italy’s national team for the March friendlies against Argentina and England, but failed to win his first cap.
Spanish giants Sevilla are also said to be keen on Ferrari, who has a contract at Sassuolo until the summer of 2021. Though Sampdoria are looking to reduce the asking price, it looks as though any interested parties must pay £11.5million to sign the defender.
