The Mail’s Craig Hope claims Newcastle are set to open talks with manager Eddie Howe after his heroics as Toon boss, since replacing Steve Bruce. Hope says there has been a realisation that his contract ends in June 2024.

Howe joined Newcastle with the club seriously threatened by relegation, but has taken the Toon to a lofty 12th place. A win against Burnley on the final day of the season, and the Toon could climb into 10th.

The ex-Bournemouth manager is currently earning £77,000 a week at Newcastle, a similar wage to the one he was on at the Vitality Stadium. But that deal, ends in 2024. The Toon board are now looking at extending that.

Howe is believed to have a good relationship with both Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley. He has also been working as a director of football behind the scenes, and his January signings certainly paid off.

Talks are set to begin on extending his contract in the coming days and weeks, with Howe’s family set to relocate to the north east. While there were initial doubts regarding Howe, now, fans will be delighted at the news.

Newcastle to open Howe talks: More than deserved for Toon manager

Howe is one of the nominations for Premier League Manager of the Season. He has reinstalled a love between club and support, as have the board. There is excitement from fans, for the first time in a very long time.

There is genuine belief and hope that in a full season, Howe could work wonders in both the transfer market and next season’s Premier League. A new deal is deserved, especially after Monday’s 2-0 win over Arsenal.
