Gvardiol – who has been compared to Virgil van Dijk – is a huge talent, and is valued at £50m by RB Leipzig.
The Daily Mail believe Newcastle are set to hold internal discussions this week over a move for the 20-year-old, as part of recruitment talks.
Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly will also be discussed, as will Yves Bissouma, Moussa Diaby, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Brennan Johnson, Kalvin Phillips, Darwin Nunez, Patrick Schick and Alexander Isak.
Newcastle are also on the hunt for a goalkeeper, with Dean Henderson, Sam Johnstone, Bernd Leno and Kepa Arrizabalaga on the shortlist.
Talk of Gvardiol comes after the Daily Mail also revealed that Tottenham have made the Croatia international their top target for the summer.
However, Croatian news outlet Index believe Arsenal will fight their north London rivals for his signature.
Newcastle must beat Arsenal and Tottenham to Josko Gvardiol

In our view, Newcastle may never have a better chance to sign Gvardiol than they do now.
The Croatian has the potential to be one of the best centre-backs in Europe one day, as he’s already performing at a phenomenal level.
However, if the Magpies wait, they may find themselves having to pay well over the odds in future.

RB Leipzig are a selling club, having offloaded the likes of Timo Werner, Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano in recent seasons.
Therefore, they won’t deny Gvardiol a move, if the money is right.
Keep an eye on this saga, as Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham fight it out for the Zagreb-born wonderkid.
