Newcastle United are set to be offered the chance to sign Ozan Kabak, with his loan spell at Liverpool due to expire in the summer, the Athletic claim.

Liverpool appear to have opted against signing Kabak, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having other central defensive targets.

Newcastle could still be able to give the Schalke man a chance to stay in England though.

The Athletic say that Kabak is expected to be offered to Steve Bruce’s side, but any deal is still unlikely.

Schalke want £18 million for Kabak, which could take him out of Newcastle’s price-range.

Worth the money?

Bruce is believed to be eyeing up a central defender and the appeal of Kabak is obvious.

He has performed impressively since stepping into Liverpool’s backline, with Jurgen Klopp going as far as to call him ‘incredible’ after one game during his loan spell (Goal).

Kabak does have some flaws in his game, but seemed to adjust to Premier League football quickly – after a rather shaky start.

At the age of 20, his price tag doesn’t seem to be ridiculously high, given his potential – but Newcastle’s budget is said to be more limited than ever, which could be a concern on Tyneside ahead of the transfer window reopening.
