Newcastle United are reportedly set to avoid a move for Dimitar Berbatov.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United won’t be making a move for Dimitar Berbatov, despite the striker’s comments about heading to St. James’ Park.
The Magpies picked up a vital 2-1 win away at Brentford this afternoon, a result which takes Rafael Benitez’s side back to top of the Championship table after Brighton’s 2-0 defeat away at Preston North End.

Striker Daryl Murphy was the hero for Newcastle, scoring a 79th minute winner to grab all three points for the Magpies, with the Irishman making just his second Championship appearance for the club following a move from Ipswich Town in August.
With Murphy off the mark in the league and Dwight Gayle continuing to fire, Newcastle look strong up top even with Aleksandar Mitrovic out injured, but one striker did virtually offer himself up for a move to St. James’ Park before the game.
Former Tottenham and Manchester United hitman Dimitar Berbatov told The Times on Friday that ‘everything is possible’ when asked whether he would join Newcastle, and went onto reveal that Magpies legend Alan Shearer was his boyhood hero.

“Everything is possible. Just to smell the grass one more time, especially in England,” said Berbatov. “Alan Shearer was a hero, still he is a hero of mine, the way he scored the goals and put his hands out, that’s what I used to do when I scored as a tribute to him, just trying to imitate your childhood hero,” he added.
Berbatov, 35, made his name in England with more than 120 goals across spells with Spurs, Manchester United and Fulham, but is currently a free agent having been released by Greek side PAOK Salonika at the end of last season.
The Bulgarian ace is hunting a new club, but The Chronicle report that Newcastle won’t be making a move for the veteran despite his apparent interest in a move to Tyneside.
It’s stated that Newcastle believe they have enough in attack already, hence their decision to let Adam Armstrong stay on loan at Barnsley, and will subsequently avoid a move to lad Berbatov this month.
With Berbatov’s history of being a talented yet often lazy player, Newcastle may well be better off sticking with what they’ve got than bringing in a free agent with a questionable attitude and lack of playing time.
