According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United believe they’re close to finalising a deal that would see Joe Willock return to St James’ Park.
The midfielder of course spent the second half of last season on loan with the Magpies, and it’s fair to say he was a rousing success.
Indeed, Willock netted eight goals in 14 Premier League games with Newcastle last term, so it’s no surprise to hear that they want to bring him back.
Unfortunately, Newcastle aren’t going to be re-signing him on a permanent deal – at least not to begin with.
Indeed, The Telegraph report that Willock will initially return on another loan deal, but the Magpies may also negotiate an obligation to buy, but that is dependent on the club’s ownership situation and their transfer budget.
Willock’s return will undoubtedly be a big boost to Newcastle, especially after his exploits towards the end of last season.
The midfielder certainly has what it takes to be a star for United. After all, this is a player that Mikel Arteta has called ‘special’ in the past.
Let’s not forget that Willock is still on a run of scoring in seven consecutive Premier League games for Newcastle, so if he picks up where he left off, Jamie Vardy’s record of scoring in 11 consecutive matches could be in his sights.
