Newcastle United are pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Maximilian Philipp.

According to The Chronicle, Borussia Dortmund striker Maximilian Philipp is wanted by Newcastle United this month – despite a £19million price tag.
The Magpies lost 2-1 at Chelsea on Saturday evening, and remain in desperate need of new recruits during this month’s transfer window, especially in attack.
A skilful, creative forward to play off Salomon Rondon would be ideal, with Ayoze Perez still unconvincing in that role, and a new target has emerged.
The Chronicle report that Newcastle are interested in Dortmund talent Philipp, who has endured a tough time with injuries over the last year.
The 24-year-old made an £18million move (Goal) from Freiburg to Dortmund in 2017, and showed promise with nine goals in 20 Bundesliga games last term before a patella tendon issue.
Philipp is back, but has started just eight games this term as Paco Alcacer has become Dortmund’s undoubted first-choice striker this season.

Philipp is now thought to be available for £19million, and whilst he fits the bill for Newcastle, Rafael Benitez may need to get craft in order to lure him to St James’ Park.
Newcastle are unlikely to have £19million to spend on Philipp this month, and whilst Stuttgart have already had one loan bid turned down, that may be the Magpies’ best ploy.
A loan deal with a permanent clause included may just tempt Dortmund into business, especially if it’s not to a Bundesliga rival, so Newcastle aren’t quite out of the running despite that asking price.
