According to Foot Mercato, Olivier Ntcham will not be returning to Celtic this summer following the expiration of his loan at Marseille.

What’s the story?

Well, the Frenchman – who is wanted by Newcastle – endured a torrid time in Ligue 1 after joining Marseille on loan in January.

His arrival led to the sudden departure of André Villas-Boas, who offered his resignation as he didn’t want Ntcham at Marseille.

Eventually, the Portuguese coach was sacked due to his conduct.

If that wasn’t enough to make Ntcham feel awkward, he was then handed just four appearances in Ligue 1.

Now, he looks set to leave Celtic for good, with his contract expiring in 2022.

Foot Mercato claim he has interest from two teams in Ligue 1.

Ntcham is also said to welcome a return to France’s top-flight, as he feels he needs ‘revenge’ for his time at Marseille.

Boost for Newcastle’s hopes

According to The Athletic – a very reliable source – Newcastle are interested in signing Ntcham this summer.

Rather than risk losing the midfielder for nothing next year, Celtic will surely want to cash in if an offer arrives this summer – in our view.

In that respect, Newcastle have a great chance of signing him.

Foot Mercato‘s confident claim, which suggests Ntcham won’t be returning to Celtic Park, only provides more encouragement for the Magpies.

Now, Steve Bruce just needs to submit a bid.

Presumably, that would set the wheels in motion for a move to Tyneside.
