According to Calciomercato, Borussia Monchengladbach are now keen to snap up Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu after links to Newcastle United.
Back in September, it was claimed by The Chronicle that Newcastle were keen to sign Tomiyasu and had made trips to Italy to scout him.
The Magpies were keen to get a deal done that would have cost around £15million, but it depended on DeAndre Yedlin leaving – and that didn’t happen.
Fast-forward to now, and Yedlin is still at the club, and it’s hard to imagine Newcastle paying £15million for anyone before Monday’s deadline.
Newcastle could soon miss out on the Bologna star completely, as it’s now suggested that Gladbach and Bayer Leverkusen are both keen on Tomiyasu.
If Gladbach come calling, Tomiyasu would be able to play in the Champions League, which must be hugely appealing to the Japanese star.
The 22-year-old has excelled in Italy since arriving from Sint-Truiden in 2019, and his versatility to play at right back and centre back has attracted suitors.
Newcastle fans are all too used to missing out on transfer targets, and having failed to sign Tomiyasu, seeing him make a Champions League move would be pretty frustrating.
