According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Bayer Leverkusen are in ‘very advanced’ talks to sign Roma striker Patrik Schick this summer.

It’s claimed that Schick is ready for a new challenge, but will remain in the Bundesliga following his loan spell at RB Leipzig.

Rather than return there, Schick is nearing a move to Bayer Leverkusen, with a move described as ‘close’ and ‘very advanced’.

This would be a big blow for Newcastle United, as they have been pursuing Schick ahead of possible move this summer.

The Daily Mail reported on Monday that Schick is Newcastle’s top target this summer, for a fee of around £22million.

Just hours after that report emerged, the claims of a move to Leverkusen began to accelerate, and it now looks like the Magpies will miss out.

Schick, 24, hit 10 goals and two assists in 22 Bundesliga games last season, before returning to Roma this summer.

The Italian side are set to sell, but Newcastle will seemingly have to look elsewhere for a new striker this summer, with Schick heading back to Germany.
