Newcastle United have missed out on the chance to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Chris Gloster after the USA youngster was denied a work permit, according to ESPN.
Two days after prolific Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Junker was denied a move to the Premier League because of new Brexit rules (Bold), it seems the same fate has befallen a 20-year-old left-back.
Newcastle hoped to sign Gloster from Dutch giants PSV before Monday’s transfer deadline.
But the struggling Magpies have been told by the FA that, in this post-Brexit environment, the New Jersey-born youngster won’t qualify for a work permit.
Special dispensation can be given to players with a large number of caps for their national team but Gloster, despite featuring regularly for USA youth sides, has yet to make his senior debut for Gregg Berhalter’s side.
ESPN believes Gloster will now join Danish outfit Sonderjyske instead.
It’s no secret Newcastle have been scouring the market for a left-back amid Paul Dummett’s injury problems.
But the Tyneside giants appear to have given up hope of signing Brandon Williams from Manchester United, while rumours surrounding the return of Jetro Willems have grown cold.
