Newcastle and West Ham have both been linked with Maia.
Maia, 21, has been linked with a move to Newcastle for much of the summer transfer window, but it is believed that Premier League competitors West Ham United are just as keen.
Indeed, just last week The Sun claimed West Ham were closing in on making Maia their eighth summer signing under Manuel Pellegrini for a fee in the region of £20million.
But it seems as though a deal for any club is far from done this summer, though Newcastle and West Ham’s interest in the Brazilian youngster remains undoubted.
Maia has cropped on the shortlist of Rafa Benitez and Pellegrini after starring Ligue 1, making 34 league appearances and helping Lille avoid the drop by the skin of their teeth – finishing just one point above 18th-placed Toulouse.
Newcastle need a central midfielder after selling Mikel Merino to Real Sociedad, while Isaac Hayden has also been linked with an exit from St. James’ Park this summer.
