Newcastle are reportedly keen on ex-Sunderland star Borini.
Italian site CalcioMercato have reported in an exclusive that AC Milan forward Fabio Borini has sent his agent to China in a bid to thrash out a deal with newly-promoted Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC – which sees Newcastle miss out.
TuttoMercatoWeb claim Newcastle are after the 27-year-old attacker ahead of the January transfer window, with Gennaro Gattuso freezing him out of the side.
He has failed to play a single minute of Milan’s last five games despite making 11 appearances in all competitions prior to that. He has scored just six goals in 55 games for the Italian club.
But it appears that the one-time Italy international has chosen to try something new and move to Asia with Chinese side Shenzhen, who are looking to make a big-name signing after their promotion to the top tier.
Borini’s agent Roberto Di Fanti has travelled to Hong Kong on Thursday to meet with Shenzhen chiefs, while the Chinese club are finalising details over a bid that would see Borini leave to move to Asia.
Shenzhen have no household names and Borini would certainly be their biggest player, but they do have former Real Madrid manager Juan Ramon Lopez Caro at the managerial helm. Newcastle look set to miss out, though.
