Newcastle and Spurs have hit a roadblock in their pursuit of Brennan Johnson, with Nottingham Forest upping their price for the British talent.

According to Sky Sports News, the Championship club now value the winger at £20m in an attempt to scare off Premier League sides from the 20-year-old attacker.

Johnson is regarded as one of the best talents in the second-tier this season, with the English-born Wales international scoring five goals and assisting four in what has been a breakout year for the winger.

The forward’s trickery and dribbling has made Johnson an entertaining player to watch. And now, Premier League clubs are eager to sign the Forest superstar, with the Daily Mail reporting that the likes of Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton and West Ham are keen on the youngster.

As per Sky Sports News, though, Forest are determined to keep hold of Johnson this January. And it will take a club-record fee of £20m to pry the youngster away from Steve Cooper’s side.

Lauded as a ‘livewire’ by Wales Online, the British talent could easily be the next Championship star to make the leap to the Premier League. However, a summer move now looks more likely for the youngster.

Forest are making the right move pricing Johnson out this January

After an impressive debut season in the Championship, it’s easy to suggest that Johnson is ready to play Premier League football this month. However, Forest are making the right decision in retaining the youngster until the end of the season.

After all, the winger is still young and has plenty to learn. And under Cooper at Forest, Johnson has the perfect coach to flesh out his game in the second half of the season, which looks set to be an exciting one for the Nottingham giants.
