According to The Mirror, Newcastle United have rejected a shock offer from Valencia for midfielder Sean Longstaff.
It’s claimed that Valencia had hoped to tempt Newcastle into a last-gasp deal for Longstaff that would have seen him go on loan to the La Liga side.
There would then have been an option to buy at the end of the season, but Newcastle have turned them down.
Longstaff only has 18 months left on his contract at Newcastle, but the Magpies are at least planning to offer him a new deal eventually.
Valencia seemingly hoped to take advantage of any lingering in decision over Longstaff’s future, but Newcastle have batted them away.
The 23-year-old impressed under Rafa Benitez, but has really struggled for form under Steve Bruce, and has started just nine league games this season.
The report adds that Newcastle are planning to rip up the contract of Achraf Lazaar, who was signed by Benitez way back in 2016.
It’s easy to forget that the Moroccan is still a Newcastle player given that he has only ever made 10 appearances for the club.
The 29-year-old is out of contract this summer, and Newcastle look set to axe him early and finally get him off their books.
