Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly not giving up on signing Moussa Diaby, who is also on the radar of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The Northern Echo have reported that Newcastle remain keen on signing Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window.

The German club are publicly saying that they do not want to sell the winger, but Newcastle’s ‘recruitment team have made renewed contact’ with them over signing the France international, according to the report.

The Northern Echo have claimed that Bayer value Diaby at €50 million (£43.09 million).

90min reported on May 30 that Arsenal and West Ham United want to secure the services of the former Paris Saint-Germain winger this summer.

Newcastle United or Arsenal for Moussa Diaby?

In our view, Newcastle United will have a better chance of signing Moussa Diaby than Arsenal.

Arsenal are in talks with Leeds United over Raphinha, and speculation suggests that they are confident of getting a deal.

Now, if the Gunners do sign the Brazil international winger, then they will not need to bring in Diaby, who can play as a striker, in attacking midfield or on the wing.

That would mean at least one fewer club in the race for the 22-year-old, thereby enhancing Newcastle’s chances of signing him.

Diaby scored 13 goals and gave 12 assists in the Bundesliga and scored four goals and provided two assists in the Europa League for Bayer last season.
