Burnely and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Stoke City striker Jonathan Walters.
Stoke City’s Jonathan Walters celebrates scoring
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are interested in signing Stoke City attacker Jonathan Walters this summer – but Burnley are also keen.
The Magpies sealed promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking on Monday night, as two goals from Ayoze Perez helped Rafael Benitez’s men to a 4-1 win over Preston North End.
With their place in the Premier League next season now guaranteed, fans will be keen to see Newcastle splash the cash on exciting new signings to make sure that the Magpies don’t slip back into the Championship again any time soon.
It seems that Newcastle are keen on a striker, but it may not be one that sets pulses racing on Tyneside, as The Telegraph claim that the Magpies are keen to land Stoke City attacker Jonathan Walters this summer.

Walters, 33, had spells with Blackburn, Bolton, Hull, Crewe, Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Wrexham and Chester in a nomadic opening to his career, but a move to Ipswich Town in 2007 proved to be the making of him.
After 32 goals in 146 games for the Tractor Boys, Stoke City snapped up Walters in 2010, and he has been a valuable first-team player throughout his time with the Potters, notching 62 goals in 269 games.

Walters has started just 13 Premier League games this season though, and whilst he has four goals in the top flight, it’s claimed that Walters is set for talks over his future under Mark Hughes, with Burnley and Newcastle keen.
Walters still has one year left on his Stoke contract, but a move to Newcastle could be appealing, with the Magpies allegedly showing their interest as Benitez looks to the Republic of Ireland international for a veteran, hard-working striker who can lead the line in the Premier League.
