Both Rangers and Celtic watched Reagan Thomson shine on international duty last week but, according to the Daily Record, Scotland’s newest wonderkid is expected to move south of the border and sign for Newcastle United instead.

The Queens Park starlet is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting young talents in the country and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

Thomson provided two assists as Scotland’s youngsters beat Iceland over the international break and the report claims that Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers, who are currently battling for a place at the top of the Scottish Premiership, sent scouts to watch the teenager in the flesh.

But it is believed that English top flight strugglers Newcastle are set to complete the deal instead. The report adds that a transfer is on the verge of being agreed with Steve Bruce’s side set to pay a ‘substantial’ fee to bring Thomson to St James’ Park.

The attacking midfielder has made eight appearances this season for League Two Queens Park and, while he will be expected to play for Newcastle’s reserves initially, the relentless rise of the Longstaff brothers should give him hope that a first-team chance will come if he earns it.
