Newcastle United have set their asking price for Allan Saint-Maximin at £50 million, the Athletic report.
Newcastle hope that their decision to put such a high price tag on the winger will ensure that potential suitors are scared off from buying him.
Saint-Maximin has made some noises that he could be open to leaving Newcastle this summer, if they don’t show some ambition in the transfer market.
However, it seems that the Magpies are determined to keep hold of the Frenchman.
As a result they have set a high asking price of £50 million for their star man, in the hope that will be enough to put rival sides off.
Will Saint Maximin stay?
At that sort of price he certainly does become a risky purchase for any potential buyers.
Saint-Maximin has shown real quality at Newcastle, and is a major attacking threat.
His dribbling ability makes him an appealing option for higher placed clubs.
However, he has also shown a level of injury proneness, while question marks remain over his final quality at the very elite level.
For £50 million, any buying club would surely be expecting the finished article.
And it may be that asking price does indeed put teams off, with money expected to be tight around the league this summer.
