Unwanted Chelsea striker Loic Remy has emerged as a serious transfer target for Newcastle United as they look to increase their options upfront, according to the Croydon Advertiser.
The Chronicle reports that Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is keen to sign a new forward and goalkeeper before the window shuts and Remy has succeeded at St James’ Park in the past.
Loic Remy in action for Newcastle.
The 30-year-old spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Newcastle, scoring 14 Premier League goals in 26 games in a run of form that eventually convinced the Blues to sign the Frenchman in the first place.
Yet unfortunately for Remy, game time proved hard to come by after joining the West Londoners and he has since scored 12 times in 47 matches.
Last term the France international was on loan at Crystal Palace, but a knee injury curtailed his time at Selhurst Park and he failed to find the net once in the eight games he played for the Eagles.
The Metro reported on July 16 that Remy would be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge once a new forward was signed and Alvaro Morata has since arrived from Real Madrid.
The same article also said that Everton, Marseille and Southampton were the three clubs who had shown an early interest in the attacker, but now it seems a return to the North East could be on the cards.
Loic Remy of Crystal Palace is surrounded by Gael Clichy, Fabian Delph and Nolito of Manchester City.
