Newcastle have been long-term admirers of Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues.
Turkish outlet Fanatik claim Newcastle United will send scouts to watch Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues play against the SuperLig giants’ rivals Besiktas on April 29, but is it his last chance to impress the Toon’s talent spotters?
Turkish Football recently reported that Newcastle were interested in the Cape Verde international, but face competition from Premier League sides Everton and West Ham United for the 27-year-old’s services.
Rodrigues has been in decent form for Galatasaray this season, scoring seven goals and turning provider a further nine occasions during 34 league and cup outings.
But with Newcastle’s rise into 10th place after four excellent wins in a row including a 2-1 win over north London giants Arsenal last time out, Rodrigues will need to put on a show in order to convince Newcastle’s scouts.
The step up from Turkish football to the Premier League can prove too much for some, the most recent example being Everton’s Cenk Tosun who cost a whopping £27million. He started slowly and has only just regained his shooting boots.
Newcastle’s scouting team will be looking for a mesmerising performance from the 23-time international if he is to stand any chance of earning a move to the Premier League, especially with Matt Ritchie excelling of late.
The Toon’s rapid rise will see their pull in the transfer market increase, and although Rodrigues has been a long-term target, they may feel as though they can do better.
Rodrigues really needs to add to his tally against the Turkish champions when Newcastle come to town, or his chances of earning a dream move to the Premier League will vanish into thin air.
