The Chronicle claim Newcastle United have been scouting Brighton star Leandro Trossard at the World Cup ahead of the January transfer window – amid more interest from Premier League rivals in the form of Arsenal and Chelsea.

Trossard, 27, has been superb this season. In 14 Premier League appearances for Brighton, Trossard has had a hand in 10 goals this term. Scoring seven, he has created three more for Roberto De Zerbi’s side. He is at the World Cup.

Indeed, Trossard has featured in both of Belgium’s games so far – but both of his appearances have come from the bench. Roberto Martinez’s side have been woeful, limping past Canada to win 1-0, and then losing 2-0 to Morocco.

While it might not be the best time to be scouting Trossard, the Chronicle report that Newcastle scouts are in Qatar to watch the Seagulls ace. But the Chronicle reports that Newcastle are aware there is competition for his signature.

Indeed, Voetbal Belgie have reported that Arsenal are interested in signing £25million-rated Trossard. The Mirror claim Chelsea want a reunion between Graham Potter and Trossard at Stamford Bridge. The race is hotting up for Trossard.

Newcastle scouting Trossard at World Cup, Arsenal and Chelsea keen

What a signing Trossard would be for most Premier League clubs. The issue Newcastle have in signing Trossard, is that it would be incredibly harsh on Miguel Almiron. The Paraguay international has been in sensational form for the Toon.

However, given Almiron’s form has been so good, it might be that Eddie Howe now sees the ex-Atlanta star ahead of Allan Saint-Maximin. Trossard is best on the left. So, if Trossard comes to Newcastle – he might replace the Frenchman.

That, instead of coming into the side over Almiron. Alexander Isak is also capable of playing on the left, but of course, is best suited to playing up top. Rio Ferdinand recently said that Trossard is unreal, backing a move to Chelsea.
