According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are sending scouts to Switzerland to watch Sion’s prolific striker Moussa Konate.
The Magpies appear to be playing out the rest of the season, with John Carver struggling in his role as manager until the end of the season.
Owner Mike Ashley will surely appoint a new boss in the summer, but that doesn’t appear to have stopped the Newcastle scouts from watching potential new signings ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail report that Senegalese striker Moussa Konate is on Newcastle’s transfer wishlist, with scouts set to travel to Switzerland to watch the 21-year-old in action against Young Boys today.
Konate, who shot to fame in the 2012 Olympics having played a starring role in Senegal’s run to the quarter-finals in London, joined Russian side FC Krasnodar in 2012 before a loan move to Genoa last season.
Just one goal in 25 games for the Italians meant there was no permanent deal, and Konate moved on to Switzerland last summer, joining Sion in a bid to prove his worth.
So far, it’s working. Seven goals in 16 games for Sion is an impressive return, and the Daily Mail believe that his exploits have attracted the interest of Newcastle head of recruitment Steve Nixon.
An international team mate of current Magpies striker Papiss Cisse, Konate is young and quick, whilst also versatile giving that he can also play as a winger.
With an impressive display against Young Boys, Konate could well become a prime target for Newcastle at the end of the season.
