According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have been scouting three top Ajax stars of late, with Davy Klaassen, Hakim Ziyech and Kasper Dolberg believed to be targets.

The Magpies took another step towards promotion over the weekend, as not only did they beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 away from home, but second-placed Brighton lost 3-0 at Nottingham Forest too.

That leaves Newcastle five points clear at the top of the Championship table, and with manager Rafael Benitez already preparing for the summer transfer window, he may well be hoping to land some top talents for the club’s seemingly imminent return to the top flight.

Now, The Chronicle report that Newcastle are scouting a number of players, with three Ajax stars allegedly on the Magpies’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

It’s claimed that playmakers Davy Klaassen and Hakim Ziyech, as well as goalscoring sensation Kasper Dolberg are all being watched by Newcastle, with the trio possible targets at the end of the season.

Klaassen, 24, is the current Ajax captain, and something of a club hero having come up through the famed Ajax academy. With 12 goals and five assists in the Eredivisie this season, Klaassen continues to be a key player for the Amsterdam giants, with his total tally standing at 51 goals in 164 games; a superb record for a midfielder.

Attacking midfielder Ziyech had established himself as one of the top players in Dutch football during a superb spell with Twente, where he hit 30 goals and 27 assists in just over two years with the club.

Now a Moroccan international, Ziyech left Twente for Ajax last summer, and the left footed midfielder – who possesses superb dead ball ability and a ferocious long shot – has starred for Ajax too, with eight goals and eight assists since joining the club.

The most highly-rated player of the three though is 19-year-old striker Dolberg. Already a Danish international, Dolberg joined Ajax from hometown club Silkeborg in 2015, and his goal record this season has earned him rave reviews.

The teenager has smashed 14 goals in 36 games this season whilst also adding six assists, making him one of the top young talents in world football and sparking major interest from a number of clubs, now including Newcastle.

Benitez’s men would have to pay big money to land even one of those three players, but the fact that they’re being scouted suggests that Newcastle may well be willing to splash some cash to make sure that when they return to the Premier League, they stay there.
