Newcastle United watched Celtic central defender Kristoffer Ajer in action against Rangers at Ibrox today, according to The Scottish Sun.
Ajer played for Celtic in the Old Firm derby against Rangers away from home at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
The report has claimed that Premier League club Newcastle had scouts present at Ibrox to follow the Norway international, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder.
Although Celtic went down 4-1, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is ‘still ready to push the button on a deal’ to bring the 23-year-old to St. James’ Park this summer, according to the report, which has added that Norwich City also want the youngster who is rated at £8 million by the Hoops.
How did Kristoffer Ajer play for Celtic against Rangers?
As the 4-1 scoreline suggests, the Celtic back-line was far from great against a confident and firing Rangers team.

True, the controversial dismissal of Callum McGregor in the 23rd minute did not help, but Ajer and his fellow defenders could have done better.
Although Ajer made some good runs forward and almost scored a brilliant goal, he struggled defensively and could not read danger well enough against Rangers.
