Newcastle United are among the clubs said to be watching the teenage Sunderland forwards.
Newcastle United are scouting Sunderland’s Joel Asoro and Josh Maja ahead of their contracts expiring next summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The teenage forwards have provided a rare bright spark in another woeful season for Sunderland, which looks certain to end in League One football next term.
And Newcastle it seems are keen to rub salt in the wounds by luring Asoro and Maja to Tyneside – with the Daily Mail reporting that it is thought the pair are better than their Magpies counterparts of a similar age.
Rafa Benitez’s side are not alone in their interest, however, with Arsenal and Watford also said keen – although it is claimed that Asoro and Maja have been warned by their manager, Chris Coleman, that they risk going backwards if they quit the Stadium of Light for first team football.
According to the Daily Mail, the pair have been offered extensions by Sunderland, which the club are hopeful they will sign.
Swapping Sunderland for Newcastle would not go down well on Wearside – although unlike the last player to make such a move, Jack Colback, Asoro and Maja are unlikely to have to face the Sunderland supporters any time soon.
