Italian website TMW claim Newcastle are planning to reignite January interest in Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata this summer, and are readying an offer of £34million to sign the Colombia international.

Zapata, 31, was strongly linked with a move to the Toon in January – some reports even claiming he had accepted a move to join Newcastle, after a £36.8million bid. But he remained at Atalanta, where he has a contract until 2024.

One of Serie A’s most-feared strikers, Zapata is known for his incredible speed, strength, aerial ability and physical prowess. He has a bit of everything in the locker. Indeed, he has been compared to Romelu Lukaku.

Little surprise then, that after 20 goal involvements in 32 games during 2021-22, Zapata is once again a target for the Toon. Missing out on Hugo Ekitike, they still want a striker, and Zapata has re-emerged as a target.

The report state that Newcastle are back in for Zapata. However they will have to pay £34million to land the forward. They also claim that it will ‘not be easy’ to get the striker, but after tempting him in January, there will be hope.

Zapata would be a wonderful signing. Yes, he is 31, but he offers something different to both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood. He has that blistering pace, like Wilson, combined with the strength and physicality of Wood.

He is everything any manager would want in a striker. Injuries have started to creep in. But if Newcastle can get him for around £30million – it would be a superb bit of business. The ball is in Newcastle’s court.
