According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle are interested in bringing RC Lens midfielder Seko Fofana back to the Premier League.
What’s the story?
Well, this would be a great signing for Newcastle.
Fofana spent time in England with Manchester City, where he played for three years from 2013 – 2016 while also experiencing a loan at Fulham.
However, it was in Italy with Udinese where his career took off, before he earned a €10m (£8m) move to RC Lens.
Interestingly, Newcastle were also keen to sign the 26-year-old in 2019 while he was performing heroics for Udinese (Calciomercato).
Now, with Amanda Staveley and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) on board, they have resurrected their interest.
Foot Mercato believe the Magpies are monitoring Fofana, although RC Lens do not need to sell the 4-cap Ivory Coast international.
What could Seko Fofana offer Newcastle?

Well, Eddie Howe’s midfield is far from formidable, so he could certainly do with some reinforcements in that area.
In Fofana, Howe would be signing a player who appears to be entering his prime, having just won the Player of the Month award in France for September.
Interestingly, the Ivorian has been compared to his fellow countryman Yaya Toure, who became one of the best players in Premier League history at Manchester City.

While RC Lens don’t need to sell, Foot Mercato believe they would listen to a ‘huge offer’ for their No.8.
Seeing as PIF boast £320bn to their name, Newcastle are in as good a position as anyone to prise Fofana away from France.
