Newcastle are reportedly keen on Marseille winger Romain Alessandrini.
Marseille winger Romain Alessandrini
According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle United are looking to secure the signing of Marseille winger Romain Alessandrini before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
The Magpies have spent heavily in their bid to win instant promotion back to the Premier League, with Rafael Benitez already landing Matz Sels, Jesus Gamez, DeAndre Yedlin, Grant Hanley, Ciaran Clark, Isaac Hayden, Mohamed Diame, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.

However, Newcastle’s spending doesn’t appear to be over just yet, and another winger appears to be on Benitez’s wish list – especially after Rolando Aarons picked up an injury against Cheltenham Town on Tuesday.
Now, despite the club seemingly moving away from the French market, Foot Mercato report that Newcastle have an interest in signing Marseille wide man Romain Alessandrini – and are prepared to spend €5m (£4.25m) on the player.
Alessandrini, 27, joined Marseille from Rennes back in 2014, having racked up 16 goals and 11 assists during two seasons with the Ligue 1 side.

Last season, Alessandrini notched five goals and four assists as Marseille disappointed in Ligue 1, and after seeing former team-mates Steve Mandanda, Brice Dja Djedje, Giannelli Imbula, Andre Ayew and Dimitri Payet all head to England, Alessandrini may now fancy following suit.
It’s claimed that Newcastle have registered an interest in signing Alessandrini, with Marseille looking to sell the winger – and the Magpies are allegedly willing to spend £4.25m to bring the pacey winger to Tyneside.

The news may concern some Newcastle fans, given that the last creative midfielder they bought from Marseille – Florian Thauvin – was a major flop at St. James’ Park, as were many recent French imports.
As talented as Alessandrini has shown he can be, the memories of failed French signings are fresh in the minds of many, and Newcastle fans may prefer to see a winger with experience of English football signed instead.
