Newcastle United are yet to back down from their pursuit of Sven Botman despite AC Milan’s intense interest in the Dutch centre-back.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Premier League side ‘refuse to give up’ on the LOSC Lille star even though Botman is now looking extremely likely to move to Milan in the summer transfer window.
As per the report, Milan are willing to meet Lille’s €50m (£41m) price tag for Botman, with the Serie A giants eager to bring the defender to northern Italy in January but found it difficult to find a suitable agreement for the Newcastle target.
With Milan now in the driving seat to sign the 22-year-old defender, Newcastle’s determination to sign Botman can only be admired even though reports in Italy seem to suggest that Eddie Howe’s side are fighting a losing battle.
Indeed, the UEFA Champions League side are enjoying an impressive season in Serie A and have both the finances and stature to prize Botman away from Lille despite Newcastle’s efforts to sign the former Ajax academy player.
Although the Magpies seem determined to win the race for Botman, Milan’s interest and progression in getting a deal done looks to be too great for Newcastle to counter despite their new financial muscle ahead of the summer.
Newcastle should drop interest in Botman with Milan closing in

Milan look all but set to sign Botman this summer in a deal that could be an outstanding one for the Rossoneri, and for Newcastle, they should see this update as the final push to get them to move on from the Lille star.
After all, chasing Botman now feels like a lost cause for Newcastle with Milan seemingly close to agreeing to a complete transfer for the Dutchman, and for the Magpies, they should move onto other targets instead of trying to pry to the youngster to St. James Park.
