According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United could tie up the signing of free agent Jeff Hendrick next week.
It’s claimed that Newcastle have spoken to a number of coaches and scouts who have worked with Hendrick in the past.
The Magpies have allegedly received hugely positive reports on Hendrick, and are now pressing ahead with a deal to sign him.
Newcastle have made a ‘strong case’ to Hendrick amid other interest, and the Magpies now hope to have him signed up next week.
Hendrick, 28, made more than 100 Premier League appearances for Burnley following a 2016 move from Derby County, registering nine goals.
Sean Dyche wanted to keep Hendrick at Turf Moor, but a new contract couldn’t be agreed and he left the Clarets earlier this summer.
As a versatile performer who can play centrally or out wide, Hendrick could be a smart addition for free, giving Steve Bruce another hard-working player.
A Republic of Ireland international with 54 caps to his name, Hendrick has plenty of experience, and adds depth to the Newcastle side without breaking the bank – providing the deal does go through as expected.
