According to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle have received a loan enquiry from Blackpool for Elias Sorensen as the League One side look to bolster their striker options during the second-half of the season.

Sorensen has been catching plenty of attention in the under-23 side this term. In all competitions, he has scored 19 goals and there have been a number of times when fans have called on Rafa Benitez to introduce him into the first-team.

Benitez has held off on handing the teenager his debut. And it appears that there is a chance that he could now have to wait until next season to get that chance to run out for the senior side at St James’ Park.

The Chronicle reports that Blackpool have made an enquiry to take Sorensen on loan this month. It is not clear what Newcastle’s stance will be on the striker’s future, but perhaps they may be tempted to give him a chance to impress elsewhere if his opportunity on Tyneside is not in the pipeline just yet.

It would be a gamble to loan Sorensen out however. Salomon Rondon has done fairly well this term, but he has not had much support from the other forwards in the squad, and Newcastle remain in the relegation mix, with just two points separating the Magpies from the bottom three.

If Benitez allows Sorensen to leave on loan and he manages to make an impressive impact at Bloomfield Road, that would arguably increase the pressure on the side to make sure that they pull further away from the relegation zone in the remaining months of the campaign so it does not look like they have made a big mistake in letting him go.
