According to a report from The Northern Echo, Newcastle are now planning to step up their interest in signing Kenedy permanently after the Magpies pushed past the 40 point mark in the Premier League.

While not mathematically safe yet, only the most ridiculous run of results could see Rafa Benitez’s men face any kind of danger of being dragged back towards the bottom three. The Magpies’ 2-1 win over Arsenal at the weekend leaves the club 13 points clear of the bottom three with 15 to play for.

It is a remarkable achievement from Newcastle, and Benitez appears to be keen to celebrate their season by getting stuck into their summer plans as soon as possible, with the Northern Echo reporting that the club will now reach out to Chelsea about the possibility of signing the £6.3 million winger on a permanent basis.

The Northern Echo adds that Benitez is fearful that the Brazilian’s inspired loan spell at St James’ Park will harm the Magpies’ chances of keeping him for the long-term, but he intends to try and discuss a permanent deal.

Potential perfect start to the summer for Newcastle?

Based on the frustrations of previous windows, Benitez and the Newcastle fans may be reluctant to get their hopes over signing Kenedy on a permanent basis up – but it would undoubtedly be a fantastic move if the Magpies could get something done.

Kenedy has adapted superbly since arriving on loan, and getting the winger to sign permanently would be a fantastic boost to their squad and a brilliant statement regarding their ambitions for what is almost certainly going to be a second year at the highest level.
