Newcastle United have reportedly snubbed former striker Andy Carroll.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United were offered West Ham United striker Andy Carroll in swap talks for Jonjo Shelvey – but immediately snubbed their former hitman.
Newcastle unsurprisingly don’t want to let midfielder Shelvey go, even if West Ham are his boyhood club, and a move to the London Stadium may be appealing.
West Ham haven’t come up with a good enough offer so far, and it’s now emerging that they offered a swap deal to the Magpies earlier this month.
The Chronicle claim that West Ham offered to send striker Carroll back to Newcastle in part-exchange for Shelvey – a deal which the Magpies swiftly rejected.
Carroll is now believed to be available for around £2million with his contract expiring at the end of the season, but Newcastle are unlikely to want him.
Carroll, 30, emerged through the Newcastle ranks before leaving for Liverpool in January 2011, in a now infamous big-money move which went disastrously wrong.
The giant target man hasn’t had a double-figure goal return since leaving Newcastle, and he may have been open to returning to the North East this month.
However, Newcastle seemingly have no interest, and having rejected the Shelvey swap offer, they are unlikely to stump up cash for him either.
