Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Hull City ace Sam Clucas.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are keen on Hull City star Sam Clucas – but the Tigers are reluctant to let him leave the club this month.

The Magpies claimed a 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday afternoon to go back to the top of the Championship table, leapfrogging Brighton into first place.

Though Newcastle look like they’re heading towards promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, manager Rafael Benitez will be keen to add new signings during this month’s transfer window.

A winger appears to be on Benitez’s wish list due to question marks over the future of both Yoan Gouffran and Christian Atsu, and the Daily Mail claim that, whilst Newcastle are eyeing a move to re-sign Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend, they are also keen on Hull City’s Sam Clucas.

Clucas, 26, has endured a meteoric rise to stardom, as having been released by Leicester City in 2008, he spent time in the Glenn Hoddle academy, and made his way back up through the leagues with Hereford United, Mansfield Town and Chesterfield before joining Hull in 2015.

A versatile player who can play at left wing back, central midfield or on the left wing, Clucas has been one of the stars of the Premier League season, playing in all 21 of Hull’s league games this term.

Clucas is a hard-working player with great quality on the ball, and it’s no surprise that Benitez is keen to land him given how he’s taken to Premier League football.

However, it’s added that Hull are reluctant to sell Clucas this month, as any deal would be a major blow to their hopes of staying in the Premier League – meaning Newcastle may have to wait if they want to land Clucas.
