French outlet Jeunes Footeux report that Newcastle are preparing a loan-to-buy offer to bring Gini Wijnaldum back to Tyneside. The PSG star, who is also on Arsenal’s radar, is struggling for momentum in the French capital.
Wijnaldum, 31, joined PSG in the summer after coming close to accepting a move to Barcelona. The Dutch midfielder’s contract at Liverpool had come to an end – and it was Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG that convinced him to join.
The Premier League and Champions League winner, though, has completed 90 minutes on just six occasions since his move. He has started just 14 of his 24 appearances, and subbed off in eight of those 14.
A lack of momentum has equated to a lack of form. Sky Sports say Arsenal are among those keen. But Jeunes Footeux report Newcastle are about to table a loan-to-buy offer including a £17million permanent clause.
Wijnaldum to Newcastle: Could he actually return to Tyneside?
While he is struggling for form in France, he is still getting a decent amount of game time. Would he really want to leave PSG for a side that have just lost to Cambridge United in the FA Cup – and are in a relegation scrap?
Would he really want to leave the possibility of winning the Champions League, playing alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, to join The Toon? Well, if Newcastle have a chance, they could play on his previous spell.
He scored 11 goals and created five more in a 40-game stint at Newcastle in his previous time in the north east. Loved by fans, his exit was not the best – but he may feel he has unfinished business.
