Goal Brasil say Newcastle United are preparing to offer midfielder Bruno Guimaraes a huge £200k-a-week offer to deter interest from Chelsea – making him the Toon’s highest-paid player after a fantastic start to life on Tyneside.
Guimaraes, 24, has already become a fan favourite after just 27 appearances for Newcastle. Joining the club from Lyon in January, the Brazil international has already scored seven goals from midfield. He has also laid on three assists.
His hard-working, combative, technically glorious performances have earned enormous praise from fans and pundits alike. But it is also attracting interest. Simon Phillips claims, on GMS, he is one of four midfield targets for Chelsea.
But in order to push Chelsea aside and keep Guimaraes in the North East, Newcastle are planning something big. Indeed, Goal Brasil claim they are ready to hand Guimaraes a deal worth more than £10million a year, £200,000 a week.

Newcastle preparing to offer Bruno Guimaraes a huge £200k a week
Newcastle are not under any pressure to sell Guimaraes. He has a contract on Tyneside until June 2026. But in order to keep him happy and to prevent the midfielder’s head from being turned by Chelsea, a new deal makes sense.
Handing him a contract that eclipses the likes of Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak will certainly keep him happy. There is no sign that the midfielder is unhappy and would like to consider Chelsea. But the feel-good factor is important.
Keeping that happiness in a family-like environment is crucial. Newcastle will be aware that the lure of Chelsea, who are fighting for trophies already, will be tempting. They are a few years ahead of where Newcastle will want to be.
If it means handing Guimaraes a new deal, less than 12 months after he signed his first one, then so be it. Newcastle have the cash to keep Guimaraes happy and so, they should use it. It would be a real signal of intent.
