Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to offer Dan Barlaser a new contract, but there is Championship interest in the midfielder.

According to a report from LancsLive, Newcastle are prepared to offer Dan Barlaser a new contract, with the midfielder attracting Championship attention ahead of the final year of his deal at St James’ Park.
Barlaser has returned to Tyneside after an impressive loan spell in League One with Accrington Stanley this past season, where he made 39 appearances in the league.
It appears that it could be a crucial summer for the 22-year-old, who LancsLive reports is still keen to break into the first-team at Newcastle.
LancsLive reports that he could be offered a new contract with the Magpies and find himself available for another loan move ahead of next season. The report notes that Wigan Athletic lead the race for his signature, but are weighing up a permanent bid for the youngster.

Meanwhile, LancsLive suggests that Preston North End are also interested – though it is not entirely clear whether Alex Neil’s men would look to pursue a permanent move or a loan deal.
If Barlaser wants to make the grade at Newcastle, then a Championship loan may be the perfect move for him next season. He is unfortunately reaching an age where some supporters would be forgiven for starting to write him off given that he has only made a handful of appearances for Newcastle’s first-team by this stage.
Doing well in the second tier may not guarantee a future chance for the Magpies. But having done well at Accrington, it would show that he can step his game up and he does have the potential to develop further.
