Newcastle United are ready to make a “formal offer” for Evann Guessand with the club’s recruitment team believing the Nice striker will be a star of the future, as reported by the Northern Echo.
If you’re a young player hoping to make a name for yourself in Europe, this is the way to do it.
During March’s clash between Lausanne-Sport and FC Zurich, the on-loan striker went from a little-known 19-year-old to the talk of the town thanks to one moment of magic.
Guessand channelled his inner-Olivier Giroud, flicking home a misplaced cross with a stunning scorpion kick.
And since that defining moment it’s no coincidence the France youth star suddenly has his fair share of suitors.
This week, the Daily Mail reported Premier League rivals Southampton and Newcastle were interested.

The Northern Echo has now shed more light on the situation, claiming Steve Bruce’s often goal-shy Magpies have “compiled a number of dossiers” on Guessand, who has scored seven goals and produced five assists during his time on loan in Belgium.
The Newcastle recruitment team apparently views Guessand as a future star, with the north east outfit expected to make a bid soon.
It remains to be seen how much Newcastle are willing to offer, however, or how much Nice would demand for a skilful centre-forward with an eye for the spectacular.
