Newcastle United are reportedly keen on West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian.
West Ham’s Adrian celebrates
According to The Sun, Newcastle United are interested in signing West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel this summer, if they cannot snap up Napoli’s Pepe Reina.
The Magpies have already landed one permanent signing since winning promotion back to the Premier League, with winger Christian Atsu joining on a full-time basis from Chelsea after a successful loan spell.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez
Now, manager Rafael Benitez will turn his attention to strengthening other areas of his Newcastle squad, as he looks to keep the club in the Premier League.
The Sun report that Newcastle are keen to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and West Ham United’s Adrian has emerged as a target should the Magpies miss out on a deal for Napoli’s Pepe Reina.
West Ham United’s Adrian looks dejected
Whilst Benitez wants to reunite with his former Liverpool goalkeeper, a move is proving difficult so far, and fellow Spaniard Adrian could now be offered a way out of the London Stadium.
A 2013 signing from Real Betis, Adrian has racked up more than 120 appearances for West Ham, but did lose his place between the sticks to Darren Randolph for a major chunk of this past season.
Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow
With West Ham being linked to a number of goalkeepers, Newcastle could tempt West Ham into letting Adrian leave the club, with Benitez seemingly unconvinced by his current shot-stoppers.
Matz Sels hasn’t played a league game since September, Karl Darlow was dropped towards the end of the season and Rob Elliot isn’t seen as a long-term solution, meaning that Newcastle should be expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
