Newcastle are reportedly keeping tabs on Udinese striker Beto, who has enjoyed a breakout campaign with the Serie A side this season.
According to MondoUdinese, the northeast club are tracking the Portuguese forward, with ‘a shock offer’ reportedly in the works this January.
Beto, who is actually on loan at the club from Portuguese side Portimonense, has been one of Udinese’s best performing players this season. The 23-year-old has scored eight goals and drawn comparisons to Romelu Lukaku as per GIFN.
As per the report, talks and a potential move will likely happen in June, with Udinese unlikely to allow Beto to cut his loan deal short to move to the Premier League.
With Newcastle on the verge of wrapping up the signing of Chris Wood, it appears that the club aren’t done yet in bringing in forwards this January.
Indeed, Eddie Howe’s side have struggled for goals as of late. And the long-term injury of Callum Wilson has spurred Newcastle to sign Wood in what feels like a rushed manner.
Beto could be excellent understudy to Newcastle strikers
At just 23 and already being compared to Lukaku, Beto is a player who seemingly has the world at his feet, and this interest from Newcastle hits that the club have found their long-term striker.
With Wilson 29 and Wood 30, the two strikers are reaching their career peaks. And with the club now keen on Beto, it looks like Newcastle are already making plans for the future no matter what division they find themselves in next season.
