According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are now open to offers for Ryan Fraser.

The former Bournemouth winger was a favourite of Eddie Howe’s during his time on the south coast, and it looked as though his Newcastle career would be revived under Howe, but sadly, things haven’t quite worked out like that for the Scot.

Indeed, Fraser has become a fringe player at St James’ Park this season as the likes of Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy thrive, and, in turn, the club are now ready to sell the 28-year-old.

Understandably, it hasn’t taken long for potential suitors to come out of the woodwork as the likes of Brentford and Southampton have shown initial interest in the player.

It’s not difficult to understand why Fraser is a wanted man. After all, he remains a very talented footballer, and he has even been described as ‘superb’ by Alan Shearer.

So, does this mean that Newcastle are looking for new recruits in his position? Well, not exactly.

This report, as well as one from The Athletic on Thursday morning indicate that Newcastle actually aren’t actively looking for reinforcements heading into January, stating that the Tyneside club will only move if the right player comes up.

Of course, who that player is remains to be seen, but if Fraser is indeed set to depart in January, Dan Ashworth and co would be wise to target a new wide forward as a couple of injuries could quickly derail United’s attacking threat.

It’s a shame that Fraser’s time at Newcastle is going to be cut short. On his day he’s absolutely unplayable and with players such as Almiron and Joelinton raising their levels this season, Fraser seemed like just the player who would kick-on under Howe’s tutelage, but unfortunately, it hasn’t quite worked out like that.
